Assessment of IPA's Services
Institutional Planning and Analysis will be undergoing its periodic review during the 2013-14 fiscal year. This periodic review will be based on an external review team’s assessment of IPA’s self-study. The self-study will be informed by annual assessments IPA has conducted over the past three years and changes in our mission associated with our recent move from the Division of Academic Affairs to the newly formed Office of Planning and Budget. The periodic review process will culminate with the development of an implementation plan for addressing recommendations raised in the self-study and by the review team’s assessment.
Data Warehouse / Decision-Support Update
By itself and in partnership with IT, IPA has been working on a number of initiatives:
- Data Warehouse – design and implementation of the first phase of the Core Student Enrollment datamart is almost complete. With data going back to 2005, we are in the process of tweaking final details and validating the user interface. Production launch is planned for summer 2013.
- Banner ODS 8.4 – this version incorporates new technology into its basic design, and provides additional tables from the Student Information System, and is planned to go into production summer 2013. We are also working with departmental report writers to determine what additional data they require to effectively use the Cognos/ODS reporting environment, and will evaluate the 8.4 environment to identify gaps that need to be closed by local development.
- Cognos 10.2 – this version adds useful new functionality, including rapid data-only export to Excel, larger and improved Excel reports, and support for the Google Chrome and Safari browsers. It will be phased in following the ODS 8.4 implementation.
- Decision Support System (DSS) – UCOP has been working on building out a system-wide data warehouse, and it now contains 4 subject areas: Payroll/Personnel, Student Enrollment, UCUES, and Alumni Employment Outcomes. IPA is engaged in evaluating the available functionality for its own and other departments' use on campus, and will reach out to potential beneficiaries as that evaluation progresses.
Survey Software and Support
Institutional Planning and Analysis has a campus-wide site license for Qualtrics survey software. IPA uses Qualtrics to administer institutional surveys. IPA also provides advice, assistance, and support to campus units that wish to use Qualtrics to administer surveys to the specific populations they serve.
